Know your trainers!

As a professional dog trainer, I found that this material has some of the best description of methods and techniques when using the training equipment properly. Most people, especially trainers, that down grade or down play training equipment really 1) don't know how to use them 2) are too afraid to use them 3) or heard bad things so didn't explore on their own. When training some of the smartest breeds out there, you really need to know what you are doing and Adam Katz does!

In the fall, the grass turns brown. In the spring, the grass turns green.

As a child, when you understand the changing seasons, you'll know which clothes to have ready for chilly mornings in the fall or winter.

What if we discovered that there are `macro-seasons'? Macro-seasons could be longer stretches of time for cycles to occur. What if the cycle was about the same length as a human life? It would be hard for us to see, but once we recognize the pattern, we could better relate to people looking for products and to people finding fulfillment in giving generously to non-profits.

The Pendulum Swings

"Pendulum" by Roy Williams and Michael Drew shows that these `macro seasons' are real. "Pendulum" looks at history and uncovers a predictable swing of public opinion--largely moving from one kind of excess to moderation then to a second excess then back to moderation. I haven't finished it yet but expect to read it. I heard someone discussing the book/author on a program (I think Glenn Beck's) and it sounded very interesting. I personally believe the theory is correct.

What it IS is a fascinating look at societal trends over the past three thousand years. The idea that we swing between a pendulum of 'Me' and 'We' focus is not just interesting, it can be valuable in how to create and deliver you messages to the marketplace, how to be ready for a change from a 'Me to We' or a 'We to Me', or understand when either is reaching a peak.

Dont waste your money and buy the previous edition

Well what can I say? I paid a ridiculous amount of extra money to get the latest edition of this textbook, thanks to the greed and lack of ethics of publishers.

The content of this textbook and the previous edition is 99% the same! What changes? Well what changes are simply the cases featured in the book that are provided by Newsweek. But guess what guys? Those cases are online on the Newsweek website! you just google the name of the case and you will find them online for free!

Plus what made me mad is that even those cases are outdated and the strategies of the companies have changed. There are case from 2007 and 2009.. there is one from Microsoft and the guy hired was already kicked out and works for Nokia, there is another about Mozilla vs Internet Explorer that doesn't acknowledge the changes in the Internet Explorer software.. I guess you could say the technology changes fast but you could have checked and not include a case from 2009 and outdated information!

The book itself is good cover the major strategic concepts, I liked it but don't waste your money and buy the older edition!

Strategic Management

This text was required for my final Master's level class, so I had no choice in buying it. With that being said, it presented great up-to-date company examples within in each chapter. This text pulled together information from many other classes, and integrated them into usable methods for any size organization. Also noteworthy, is that globalization is addressed constantly. The glossary was low to moderate, and there was an abundance of case studies.
