Amazing!

I have read many books on body language, psychology, and communication. This book condenses amazing amounts of material into one little book. The most astounding thing is that the information is presented in such an entertaining and visual way that I have read and reread this book many times, each time learning something new. After reading just two books in the Wooden Books series I decided to buy all of them and after having read almost all of them now, I must say I am very pleased.

Perfect coverage for getting started using android smartphone connecting to pi 2

This book covers exactly what you need to know and do in order to use an android smart phone (or even android stick) to communicate via wi-fi or bluetooth with the pi 2. All the Linux and Android commands are given to setup a truly usable environment for creating a great IoT devices. This book goes a bit further by helping you understand what issues you may have and how to overcome them or gives extra resources if it's outside the scope of the book. I learned how to remote manage the pi from android, install, configure, and manage mysql database, a webserver, read from GPS and a temperature/humidity sensor, and how to connect the pi to your car OBD-II and stream that data to a google doc spreadsheet using your phone as a mobile hotspot. It also includes the basic things like installing a media center, a file server, and a security camera. But the meat of connecting it all up is the car data logger. In order to do the reading and streaming from Android, you get to create an Android App using Android Studio.

This book may not be for everyone since the scenarios are so specific. For instance, I may not want Android to communicate with the pi through wi-fi or bluetooth, but some other connection. You'll need to figure out how to connect via a hard-wire/usb/other device on your own.

You can literally sit down and follow the examples word for word (you may need to be a bit creative if you're not using the same hardware/software versions) and have usable environments. I love that this book is so hands on and not so much theory.

This text is comprehensive in approach, yet broken into three major parts that are easy for students to follow and to use to build their own work (I especially like the “learning outcomes” for each chapter). I find the book has more detail than the text I currently use and seems more appropriate as an introductory text given the level of students I normally teach in this course. About the Author
Allen F. Repko, PhD, is the former director of the interdisciplinary studies program in the School of Urban and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington where he developed and taught the program’s core cur­riculum for many years. The program is one of the largest in the United States. Repko has written extensively on all aspects of interdisciplinary studies, has twice served as coeditor of the interdisciplinary journal Issues in Integrative Studies, and has served on the board of the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS). Though recently “retired”, he continues to write and speak at AIS conventions where he conducts annual workshops on interdisciplinary program development and assessment. He can be contacted at allenrepko@att.net.

Rick Szostak, PhD, is Professor of Economics at the University of Alberta where he has taught for 28 years. He is the author of ten books and 30 articles, all of an interdisciplinary nature. Several of his publications address how to do interdisciplinary research, teach interdisciplinary courses, administer interdisciplinary programs, or organize information in order to facilitate interdisciplinarity. As an Associate Dean, he created the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies at the UofA, the STS program, an Individualized Major, and two courses about interdisciplinarity. He teaches those courses as well as courses in STS and on economic growth. He has twice served as coeditor of the interdisciplinary journal Issues in Integrative Studies. Michelle Buchberger, PhD, is Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies at Franklin University. She proposed and developed the B.S. Interdisciplinary Studies program, which is taught in both traditional and online formats. A fairly recent convert to interdisciplinarity, she has worked as co-coordinator (with Pauline Gagnon) of the Alpha Iota Sigma (AIS) international honors society for interdisciplinary studies and has presented and written on topics including teaching interdisciplinary studies online, working with non-traditional students, and creative thinking in interdisciplinary studies. She teaches several courses about interdisciplinarity, including electronic portfolios, theories and methods of interdisciplinary studies, creative thinking, and the interdisciplinary studies capstone course. Repetition Under Technical Names

I hope to post a more comprehensive review in the future. The core of my critique, is that this book expounds itself with regurgitation, rather than being concise and efficient in it's material.

The majority of times I visited the book, I found myself reaching the end of a section with the worry that I had simply done a phantom reading. However, on rereading, I found that I did effectively read the materiel, there was just nothing new to be said or retrained.

To understand the breadth of the materiel, just read the first couple of chapters, and then become familiar with the terms introduced later. In the longer rant I am developing, I copy selections of later book material and parallel it to the earlier content, to show how it it's the same information under the guise of "new" complex titles.

Perhaps it's my philosophical background which makes interdisciplinary ideas of cross subject integration come naturally. Perhaps I am missing the point of this book. I have neglected to say anything positive, but I will admit the book was well written (in grammar and flow);it has some nice practices and rubrics to help people who struggle with identifying interdisciplinary work.

in my capstone class where Repko's text was used, I ending up purchasing several books on writing research projects for BA and Graduate level work. These books contained the best lessons for my course. Repko is an example of rhetoric.

Largely unreadable.

Purchased and read this book for an academic course. Perhaps the most difficult book I've ever had to read. With the exception of a few chapters the material is overcomplicated and a struggle to decipher. Personally, I don't have time to sift through the convolutions of this writing style. I almost think the authors/editors produced this book to drum up consulting business for themselves. After I struggled through a chapter on a key concept and barely understood it, I would simply Google it, find other sources, and realize that it was really a fairly simple concept to learn. This might be ok as a supporting reference but don't make it your primary text on problem structuring methods.

Markets fully explained

Financial Institutions and Markets by Meir Kohn is, in my estimation, an astonishing compilation that describes everything relative to the marketplace, from banking to debt markets and to equity markets.

The inside liner note states the book is intended for use alongside an undergraduate or master's course in finance. But I, being of neither, purchased the book as a stand-alone. I am pleased with my decision to buy the book and have found it is well organized and easy to read. Only on rare occasion did I find any mathematical rigor (calculating coupon payments and so on). Nearly all of the book, however, is plain text that explains the markets.

Some highlights include: four ways that businesses raise capital for investment, what commercial paper is and what it has to do with money market funds, what swaps are and how they are used, mortgage strips, stock exchanges, call auctions, the role of market makers, and many more.

The book is quite lengthy. I initially skipped the banking, debt, and insurance chapters and went right to the section that described the stock market. Having satisfied that, I am now backfilling the rest of the book and have been content if not surprised with the directness and clarity the author has provided on all subjects.
