About the Author
Natalia Karoway is a lover of transformation. Through shamanism, yoga, and sacred ceremony, she is devoted to creating a beautiful, safe, and joyful space for our souls to come alive and remember our highest potential. She believes that when we are able to remember, we are able to heal. Natalia officially stepped onto the shamanic path in 2011 when her own soul was calling out for deeper healing and deeper meaning. It was at this time that she experienced transformation unlike any other and in that moment, Natalia truly fell in love with life. Her training started with The Four Winds Society where she received certification in shamanic energy medicine. Upon completion, she began further training under Jose Luis Herrera, diving infinitely deeper into the authentic indigenous medicine of Peru. Natalia has also been blessed enough to receive rites of passage and training from multiple medicine lineages—and from the land itself—in the high Andes of Peru. It is Natalia’s honor to provide sacred healing space for groups. She guides shamanic journeys to explore empowered paths to self healing. She hosts despacho ceremonies, bringing beauty, intention, and service to the practice of prayer. Natalia also teaches yoga fused with shamanic wisdom as a powerful way to physically move stagnant energy. No matter the path, all of her work culminates in allowing you to step fully into a life that you can truly love. Though she is a wanderer at heart, Natalia is currently living and loving in Massachusetts with her web designer husband where they enjoy exploring nature, sitting in ceremony, practicing yoga, and dreaming up their next adventure.

I am familiar with the practices of ceremony from the Andean tradition that Natalia so beautiful, generously and genuinely shares, and this gift literally had me in tears. So much beauty and heart expressed so powerfully yet so simply in Living Sacred Ceremony. Each offering had me wanting to run out and do that particular ceremony myself, right then and there. I also teach ceremony and sacred living in my work, and I will absolutely be recommending and sharing Living Sacred Ceremony with my students. The author, a ceremonialist and energy healer, posits that through creating simple, original rituals and ceremonies, we each can rekindle our love of being alive, and create an intimate connection to Spirit. The book is gorgeously full of photographs of ceremonies, with clear outlines and instructions on creating your own rituals. A wonderful guide and gift to living life in a sacred way. Great Suggestions for Ceremonies

This book does an amazing job explaining the basics of ceremony and its personal purpose. I love how this book encourages others to create according to their own personal and internal needs, rather than follow someone else's idea when it comes to ceremony. It ask readers to step outside of the mundane and to create personalized, individual and unique ceremony. More importantly this author suggest by doing this we can put the power of healing back into our own hands thro ceremony and learn to depend on and trust ourselves.

About the Author
David Kaye was born in Baltimore in 1948. He first started to write short stories in elementary school and progressed to writing the scripts for his high school's Christmas plays and annual spring musicals. Having been bitten by the theatre bug, he went on to work in several regional repertory theatres as an assistant stage manager, a sometime actor, and the author of workshop productions. Later on, he wrote film and music reviews for the Chesapeake Weekly Review. Since moving to the UK in 1984, he has written plays for BBC Radio, revue skits, and occasional magazine articles. Some of his poems were translated for publication in a Russian poetry magazine. He now lives near London with his English wife Diane and their eccentric cat Willow.

A beautifully written book of stories by those who have lived through the heartbreak of addiction and yet find, in their hearts, incredible compassion and love. These stories of parents of addicts, children of addicts and the overwhelming love that brings them all together will leave you in tears. I could not put this book down, it was worth every moment I spent reading it.

About the Author
Tom Holmes, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at Western Michigan University, where he was awarded the State of Michigan Teaching Excellence Award. He has been training graduate students in psychotherapy since 1985 and since 1996 he has been teaching in the Holistic Health Care Program. His specialty area is spirituality and the therapeutic process. Tom received training in Internal Family System therapy from Richard Schwartz in the late 1980 s and has been teaching, training and practicing IFS since that time. In recent years his focus has been on burnout prevention: Healing the Healer and Tuning the Heart of the Healer. His workshops integrate Western psychology with Buddhist psychology and the Sufi path of the heart as well as spiritual teachings from Christianity, Judaism, and Taoism. He specializes in integrating spirituality with internal system therapy.

Parts Work, great introduction

This book was recommended to me after I had expressed interest in the Internal Family System work. It is indeed really worthwhile to read and reread it, because it contains so much information presented in an easily understandable way.
The one quibble I have with this book compared to Jay Earley's Self-therapy is that Holmes keeps repeating that it is difficult and/or impossible to work on your own with this system while Earley obviously takes the position that it is very well possible to do this work on your own or with a buddy, not necessarily with an IFS therapist if the situation isn't too dramatic.
Personally I am not really fond of Sharon Eckstein's drawing style, but the illustrations support the text in a wonderful way nevertheless.
Reading Holmes and Earley both together gave me an even broader introduction to this wonderful parts work. It is my intention to keep studying in this direction.

Great therapy model

Great Book, the Interfamily Systems (IFS) therapy model made an incredible change in my life, and I continue to evolve.

Like with any therapy though, it's best applied if you are concurrently in actual therapy with a counselor. But you can still make amazing things happen in your life with just the book. Just make sure you practice what it tells you!

An outstanding practical guide for teachers to work together

For any teachers who want to improve their effectiveness in teams and decrease frustrations when teams don't work, this is a useful resource. The chapters touch on the real issues that affect schools and keep the adults in schools from working effectively together. In other words, all the unmentioned political and interpersonal foolishness that nobody teaches you about in teacher school are laid right out there, along with suggestions on how to deal effectively with problem situations. A real must-read for teachers who value collaboration.
If you want to be a better colleague and develop the skills to deal effectively with other school professionals, this book can help you. In this history of plastic from the mid-19th century to the present, freelance writer Fenichell includes information on the use of plastics in industry (both in peace and war), the arts, popular culture, and fashion. Apparently for the sake of popular appeal, the author provides a chatty rather than analytical treatment, lacking documentation and being generally pro-plastic in tone. He makes some reference to the negative aspects of the industry, but the breezy writing style precludes his dealing with such issues thoroughly. Although his book has some use as a broad overview of the subject, a better choice would be Jeffrey L. Meikle's American Plastic: A Cultural History (Rutgers Univ., 1995). I sell plastic for a living and I still really liked this book

Plastic: The Making of a Synthetic Century was written by Stephen Fenichell in 1996 as a history of the plastics business. It describes the winding path that a wide range of plastics took from the lab to the marketplace. The book is filled with many, many interesting anecdotes about the entrepreneurs who blazed that trail.

The book is organized into 13 chapters arranged, mostly, in chronological order. There is the predictable, "Just one word......Plastics" cliche from The Graduate movie used as a preface. The book begins with a late 20th century scene setting chapter. Mr. Fenichell then rolls the clock back 150 years to explain the commercialization of rubber, which he properly calls "Nature's Plastic".

There are chapters about celluloid, Bakelite, and cellophane with historical vignettes about their respective titans named Eastman, Baekeland and Brandenberger. There is a dramatic account of the tragic life of Wallace Hume Carothers, the inventor of nylon. But my favorite chapter is the one entitled, "Plast-O-Rama" which highlights the ways in which post-war America went bonkers for all things plastic. From Silly Putty and Hula Hoops to Frisbees and Tupperware and Saran Wrap, it's all in this book.

Overall it thought that the Pro's of this book were:
It's a good historical overview of plastic
It's loaded with facts about plastic

And I thought the only Con of this book was:
The history is presented out of chronological order for no apparent reason

Important history.

This history is probably of more relevance and importance to our modern way of life than just memorizing a list of nineteenth century presidents.

A Fun and Enlightening read

I came across this book by accident,while travelling. The colorful cover caught my eye, but soon after reading a few chapters I was hooked. It's the perfect beach book. Plastic is now a word that can conjure the idea of "cheap" or "fake" but it was not always so. Fenichell starts us at the beginning of the discovery of the various materials like man-made rubber and other things we now take for granted, and tells the story of each innovation as though we are standing there in the lab and the inventor yells "Eureka!" Stories about the inventors range from funny (you know Goodyear is going to eventually succeed because of his famous name, but he has many misadventures before success arrives) to poignant, in the stories where someone desperately wants to achieve fame and fortune but their "plastic" product fails to catch on and their name disappears into oblivion.
My only criticism is the chapter on my grandfather, who plays a prominent role in the history of plastic. Fenichell simplifies and distorts some of the facts about my grandfather's company, but I forgive him in that it makes the reading light and entertaining in the end (well, a couple of chapters get bogged down by technical explanations of certain chemical processes). This is a book for anyone interested in American history, sociology,and pop psychology: plastics of all kinds make up an inextricable part of every aspect of our daily lives.
